Funeral Verses

Here's two verses suitable to be recited to oneself at a funeral, if you're looking for something to guide you in such a time of loss:

Aniccā vata saṅkhārā
Uppajjitvā nirujjhanti
Tesaṃ vūpasamo sukho

Impermanent indeed are all formations -
of a nature to arise and pass away.
Having arisen, they all cease -
their stilling is happiness.

aciraṃ vatayaṃ kāyo,
pathaviṃ adhisessati.
chuddho apetaviññāṇo,
niratthaṃva kaliṅgaraṃ.

Before long indeed this body
will lie on the earth.
Discarded, left by the mind,
as useless as a wooden log.
