U.S. Religious Knowledge Survey

Atheists and agnostics, Jews and Mormons are among the highest-scoring groups on a new survey of religious knowledge, outperforming evangelical Protestants, mainline Protestants and Catholics on questions about the core teachings, history and leading figures of major world religions.

Interesting stuff, though not all that surprising. Buddhists didn't even get a mention, except in questions on the survey. Here's one that I would have thought to be otherwise:

Roughly one-third (36%) [of Americans] correctly associate striving for nirvana with Buddhism.
