Back To Sanku

There is something reassuring about the place I've chosen as my home this time. Back only two days and I can feel the peace and antiquity in this ancient monastery and more ancient forest. If there are ghosts, I haven't been bothered, and the only demons I've found were in the hearts of all of us humans who inhabit this place. I think that's the best thing about this forest... so few people.

There is wildlife, though. I've been disappointed up until now with my efforts to capture on film a large one of these fine specimen of Sanku's wilder lifeforms. Finally, I found this foot-long one eating ants behind a cabinet in my outer room. Almost had him, then he escaped and hid on the other side of the room. Found him later and caught him in this dish. I didn't actually check to see if it was a he, but it was pretty ornery in its attempts, not to escape, but to bite my fingers through the plastic (wonder if that hurts...) He measured over a foot long. They're not dangerous, unless, it seems, you try to catch them. But even then, they aren't poisonous, and probably don't hurt that much if they bite. The anacondas are a different story, though :)
