Things They Didn’t Teach You In Monk School

Here’s something you don’t get everyday (thankfully ;) )… I’m not sure what to say, other than “danger, danger…” No, really, though, it’s kind of cute – love in its purist form is always a good thing, and I’m not so sexually insecure as to be afraid of such things as this. The lipstick [...]

YouTube Partnership, Translator in Jail, Reading Weblogs

Just a quick update.

Tomorrow I’m taking one of my students to the Metro Detention Center to help translate during my volunteer chaplain service. It’s nice to be on the giving side, helping the incarcerated deal with the stress of confinement and an uncertain future. Having been falsely arrested and spending a night in [...]

Uptodates

Uploaded the whole lot of Asalha videos after amplifying the audio so you can almost here what is being said. Here’s the playlist, the first video is from Visakha Puja in Tarzana, the rest or of Asalha in Moorpark:

Still teaching in the Metro Detention Center; this week I had the opportunity to [...]

Monk’s Life In A Day

Today I got sidetracked into taking part in “Life In A Day“, via YouTube. I’ve been filming since 12:01 AM and have gone through most of the following list already (the four questions are part of the requirements, not something I thought up):

• 12 AM – Pre-day – thoughts, reasons, intentions • 4 [...]

Meditation Online

Okay, found this neat service called ustream that lets me broadcast both audio and video for free… the quality is not so good but, hey, free is free. Check it out:

Next broadcast is at 7 PM Pacific… I’ll try to broadcast our evening group meditation.

Update: the 7 PM broadcast was a [...]

Translators Wanted

Transcripts for my videos are finished, thanks to a group of kind volunteers and YouTube’s built-in subtitling system, and the next step is to start translating them.  Here are the subtitle files, if anyone is able to translate them into another language, please feel free.  You can use:

Meditation Testimonals

From the Pat-Yourself-On-The-Back Dept.

Please let me be excruciatingly clear that I am not trying to pat myself on the back with these posts… honestly, I’m just parroting what I’ve learned from others in these videos, so it’s not much of an ego boost at all. It’s terribly encouraging, though, to get such overwhelmingly positive feedback, and that’s the real reason I’ve gone so far with these videos. I’m posting these here and on the sirimangalo.org website because I think it will help more people see that these meditation techniques are truly a positive influence on people’s lives, and encourage more people to try them. So, without further ado, here’s a collection of most of the feedback I’ve received on YouTube and via email about the meditation videos and DVD we made. Thanks all for your feedback, and let us keep practicing together. Continue reading Meditation Testimonals

Forgiveness and Redemption in Buddhism (Take Two)

And then we turned on the Thai version of Angulimala for my pre-teen protoges, and I realized that it is a perfect example of how forgiveness and redemption takes place for evil doers in Buddhism. Hope you appreciate this little cut-and-paste preview of the 90-min movie (I’ve fixed the horrid subtitles):

Stupid Fox News People. Period.

It’s funny how things work… I just got around to sending Tiger Woods a “How To Meditate DVD” (along with a bonus “Why Everyone Should Meditate” DVD) this afternoon, when what should I see on Facebook but the following video clip:

First of all, Buddhism is not a faith, it is a practice. [...]

How To Meditate (ISO) Torrent – New Link

Reposting this, as the link has changed:

I never thought I would create a bit torrent, but in the end it has been a surprisingly pleasant experience. Create a DVD image file, make a corresponding .torrent file, then upload the latter to a public bit torrent site and start “seeding” the former to whoever [...]
