Headed to the hospital for my first ever surgery today. Wish me luck. Years ago someone offered to pay for laser eye surgery for me; I though it a bit vain at the time, but after losing too many pairs of glasses (try finding them blind in a forest pool) and generally suffering from the nuisance and threat of winding up lost in the woods blind like Cakkhupala Thera, I've decided glasses are like crutches, and crutches are never the best solution.
I asked a strict forest monk about whether he thought it would be against the monastic code to have the operation, and he informed me that he knew several forest monks that have had the operation. So there you go.
I'll be out for a few days, then hopefully walking on my own two eyes again.
