Forest Meditation Center Flyer

What follows is a flyer I was asked to prepare in support of our vision to create a forest meditation center in the Los Angeles area. We are still in great need of support, so hopefully this will help. The PDF version is here.

Sirimangalo International Forest Monastery and Meditation Center

Sirimangalo International, a non-profit organization in California, USA dedicated to spreading the insight meditation teachings of the Buddha to the world wishes to announce our intention to open an international forest monastery and Vipassana meditation center in Southern California in the coming year.

Our vision is to create a residential center in a proper environment for intensive meditation practice in the Theravada Buddhist Vipassana tradition based on the four foundations of mindfulness. To this end, we have located a piece of property in the San Gabriel Mountains that is both inexpensive and appropriate for the purpose. The property in question, 2.2 acres (almost 1 hectare) in size, has a 1200 sq. ft. (111 m2) house and a 1200 sq. ft. garage, is commercially zoned and surrounded by mountains on all sides. It is conveniently located 15 miles (24 km) from the nearest city, and yet is remote enough to be considered pristine in its environment.

Much work will need to be done on the property if we are able to obtain it, which is the first order of business. The price of the property is set at $200,000 US, by far the cheapest property of its kind in the Los Angeles County. Obviously, inexpensive as it is, this is still a substantial and potentially inhibiting cost for us, and so we wish to present this proposal to all interested parties able to support this cause in any small way, in order to see this project to its fruition.

Warm gratitude goes out to all of those people who have seen fit to support us thus far, and to those who intend to do so in the future. May this project be of benefit to all beings, for bringing peace, happiness and freedom from suffering to the world.
